Clinical Internship Program

Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC contributes to the mental health field and the need for the expansion of highly trained mental health clinicians with experiences and specialized training in providing mental health services to children and families by offering a rigorous clinical internship program. Clinical staff will support master-level students studying counseling, social worker, marriage and family therapy, psychology, and related disciplines. Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC assists Clinical Interns with gaining clinical skills and specialized training associated with providing children and families community based mental health services while strictly adhering to the following:

1.) Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC requires that all Clinical Interns be in their final phase of graduate-level education and are required to be enrolled in a graduate-level course for field experiences, practicum, or internship

2.) Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC will only consider Clinical Intern applicants that are enrolled in an accredited graduate-level academic program.  Accreditation is recognition from an accrediting agency that an institution maintains a certain level of educational standards within the education program that is consistent with the expectations in the applicable professional field. 

3.) Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC focuses on offering our clinical internship program to graduate-level students who demonstrate a passion and commitment to servicing children and families. Further, demonstrating an awareness of the importance of servicing children and families with a trauma-informed lens, multi-cultural-lens, and with a developmental perspective.

4.) Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC only considers applicants for our clinical internship program who demonstrate high academic achievements. In addition to demonstrating historical work, career, or volunteer experiences with children and families.

5.) Clinical internships offered by Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC are directly tied to the Clinical Intern’s formal academic program evident by required practicum and/or internship course attendance in the Clinical Intern’s academic setting, integrated coursework directly related to the clinical internship that the Clinical Intern is responsible for completing throughout the duration of their clinical internship, and requiring that the Clinical Intern will receive academic credit upon completion of the clinical internship. Additionally, Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC provides training that would be similar to that which would be given in an academic environment, including clinical and other hands-on training on-site in a clinical setting.

6.) Clinical internships offered by Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC fully accommodate the Clinical Intern’s academic commitments by corresponding to the academic calendar. Resulting in Birchlawn Place Counseling Center, INC’s clinical internship program duration is limited to the period in which the clinical internship provides the Clinical Intern with beneficial learning by being a fixed-term clinical internship.
